At the airport security, the woman – who was on vacation with her parents – was arrested because she had illegal pepper spray in her bag. He later appeared in court, Brueckner claims. Brueckner argues that Portuguese officials should have a record of these events and should be able to locate his alibi.

However, German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters, who is leading the investigation, seems to deny the possible alienation of Brueckner. Wolters said “nothing” he had heard so far could be a valid alibi for Brueckner. “What we found was going in the opposite direction, so it was rather incriminating, without being able to expand on that now,” Wolters told Sky News.
