The friendship of more than two decades between Madonna and Britney Spears goes beyond their kinship in the royal family of world music. The queen and princess of pop music have already reinforced the mutual admiration that exists between them several times.
The relationship is so central that Britney has a tribute to call her own on “The Celebration Tour”, a tour in which Madonna celebrates her 40th anniversary. During the performance of “Like a Virgin”, the queen of pop shows images of the participation of the two, Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott at the 2003 VMAs.

VMA 2003
Without a doubt, the 2003 VMA performance is the most iconic moment of this friendship. Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears open the number singing the first part of “Like A Virgin” dressed as brides and making references to the music video. Madonna follows singing “Hollywood”, a hit that she had released months before the event. Missy Elliott also raps during the performance, which highlights Madonna and Britney's kiss.
“Me Against The Music”
It was backstage at this VMA performance that Britney presented “Me Against The Music” to Madonna, who agreed to collaborate with the pop princess. The song is the musical summary of the album “In The Zone”, the fourth in Britney’s career. The album is a dive into hip hop and was the first released by her after her breakup with Justin Timberlake.
Changing covers
It was normal for Britney, still at the beginning of her career, to choose to fill the setlist of her shows with covers by renowned artists like Madonna herself. That's why the pop princess sang “Material Girl” in her first shows.
