Madonna becomes the female artist with the biggest audience in history

As historic show on Copacabana beach on Saturday (4), Madonna not only reached the biggest audience milestone of his career, but also became the female solo artist to reach the largest concert audience in history .

The closing presentation of the “The Celebration Tour” which celebrates 40 years of Madonna's career, is in fifth place on the list of largest audiences ever recorded at free shows.

Even though the record for the biggest show is not held by the queen of pop, it is on Copacabana beach. According to the Guinness Book, more than 4.2 million people attended the rock star's concert Rod Stewart on New Year's Eve from 1994 to 1995.

However, the record book itself makes the reservation that this number also includes people who were on the beach to watch the fireworks during New Year's Eve in Rio.

The French artist who pioneered electronic music, Jean-Michel Jarre won second place after bringing together more than 3.5 million people at an open show in Moscow, Russia, in 1997.

Third place belongs to the Brazilian Jorge Ben Jor, which performed at the turn of the year from 1993 to 1994, also on Copacabana beach.

The MPB icon brought together around 3 million people, but the same caveat made at Rod Stewart's show is valid — some of these people may have gone to the beach just to watch the fireworks display.

Jean-Michel Jarre appears again in fourth place on the list, in a show open to the public in Paris, France, in 1990. The event brought together around 2.5 million.

Madonna shares fifth position with the festival Monsters of Rock which also brought together around 1.6 million people in Moscow, Russia, in 1991. Bands such as AC/DC, Pantera, Metallica, The Black Crowes and EST performed at the event.
