Madonna says she continued touring for her children after “near death”

Madonna may be the queen of pop, but she is also a mother.

As the “Vogue” singer approaches her 80th show on the “Celebration Tour” — the last before the tour ends in Brazil — she took advantage of the moment to demonstrate how much her six children helped her get to this point after having been hospitalized last year, before the tour began.

“I need to thank my incredibly talented children who helped me,” Madonna wrote on her Instagram page on Thursday (25), adding that each of them brought “their unique talent to the stage.”

According to the singer, their “enthusiasm kept me going”.

Her post included a series of photos of her children performing with her on stage, as well as some behind-the-scenes moments.

Madonna's children feature prominently on her “Celebration Tour.”

Her daughter Mercy James, 18, plays the piano, doing a beautiful rendition mid-show of her mother's song “Bad Girl,” from the 1992 album “Erotica.” David Banda, her 18-year-old son, plays the guitar on the show, while 11-year-old twins Stella and Estere serve as DJs and runway models during the “Vogue” sequence.

On Madonna's last tour, 2019's “Madame She also has son Rocco Ritchie, 23, from her relationship with director Guy Ritchie.

“Rehearsals began over a year ago, with a break of almost 2 months, waiting for me to recover from a near-death experience,” she wrote in the post. “They never stopped practicing. They never stopped rooting for me and supporting me.”

Madonna said all of her children continued to go to school while performing rehearsals, an achievement she is “very proud of.” Also on Thursday, David and Mercy posted to their respective Instagram stories what appeared to be prom attire, marking their high school graduation.

“If they all choose something different later in life, they will never forget this year of blood, sweat and tears,” Madonna wrote at the end of her post this week. “Me neither.”

Last June, Madonna's longtime friend and manager Guy O'Seary announced that she was in the ICU after developing a “serious bacterial infection.” A CNN later reported that the pop icon was released from the hospital days later, recovering at home.

She started the “Celebration Tour” in October, in London, after a delay due to health problems.

During a tour stop in December, she told the audience that she was placed in a “medically induced coma” while hospitalized and that she “survived” thinking, “I have to be there for my children. I have to survive for them.”

Madonna will perform her 80th “Celebration Tour” show this Friday in Mexico City. The next stop will be in Brazil, where the singer ends the tour with a free show on Copacabana beach.
