Madonna show in Copacabana will have maritime control from the Navy

A part of the Copacabana waterfront, in Rio de Janeiro, in the extension that corresponds to Leme to Posto 5, will be closed to water traffic on the day of the singer Madonna's concert, on May 4th.

Through the control and inspection of vessels that wish to be in the beach area during the event that marks the end of “The Celebration Tour”, the initiative aims to increase navigation safety, according to the Navy.

The closure will begin at 12pm on Saturday (4) and will remain in place until 4am on Sunday (5). During this period, buoys will be installed to delimit the area, and vessels will be separated, ensuring that they are kept at a minimum distance of 200 meters from the beach.

Only authorized and identified vessels will be able to occupy the blocked area, according to the Rio de Janeiro Port Authority (CPRJ).

The locations and times for prior vessel inspections will take place from April 16th to 20th (Tuesday to Saturday), April 22nd to 27th (Monday to Saturday) and April 29th to May 1st (Monday to Wednesday), during the hours of 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 4pm, at the Port Authority of Rio de Janeiro, Marina da Glória, Iate Clube do Rio de Janeiro, Bella Marina and Clube Naval Charitas.

On the day of the show, to access the restricted area, the boat driver who has previously passed the inspection will have to take a breathalyzer test. Furthermore, the maximum capacity of the vessel will be verified.

According to estimates from the city of Rio de Janeiro, Madonna's show is expected to generate R$293.4 million in the Rio economy.
