Spain expects international tourist arrivals to reach 80% of pre-pandemic levels in the second quarter of the year, as Northern Europeans seem uneasy about the war in Ukraine and return en masse to Iberia for Easter.

The Easter tourist season “does not seem to be directly affected by the uncertainty caused by the war,” said Undersecretary of Tourism Fernando Valdes, adding that he was optimistic the industry would recover from the fall caused by the Omicron variant of the new coroner. the beginning of 2022.

Any future blow from the war will depend on the duration and intensity of the conflict, he estimated.

Reservations for the Easter period have already reached 90% of the levels of 2019, according to data from the company ForwardKeys presented by the Undersecretary in the press conference he gave. Bookings from Denmark and Sweden are already 40% higher compared to the same period before the pandemic. Reservations of German and British tourists also increased by 26% and 13% respectively. The number of visitors from the US is about 26% lower compared to 2019.

The destinations chosen by tourists are the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Ibiza and Tenerife.
