Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro said on Monday, without providing evidence, that his government disarmed a plot to blame Venezuela’s security forces for an alleged attack planned to a platform of the American oil company Exxon Mobil.

Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez said last weekend that the dispute over the territory of Essequibo is an invention. She claimed that the region belongs to Venezuela and accused Guyana of stealing resources. Rodríguez also stated that Caracas would respond firmly to any aggression.
In a joint statement with Rubio, Guyana’s president, Irfan there, said last week that he was very pleased with the US commitment to ensure the protection of his territorial integrity and sovereignty and that they had discussed “the threats of Venezuela.”
