Maduro says soldiers need to train to “break teeth” of invaders

The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, stated this Wednesday (22) that the country’s Armed Forces need to train to be able to react immediately to “any surprise” and “break the teeth” of groups that may try to enter their territory.

The speech was made in a speech during an annual military exercise called “Bolivarian Shield”, held throughout Venezuela.

The Chavista highlighted that training “is a key element for everything in life, but, for the armed defense of a country, it is important” to have the capacity “for integral and immediate reaction. And break the teeth of any group that intends to enter our sovereign and peaceful Venezuela.”

He also pointed out that it is necessary to defend the maritime area and all land borders. The simulations carried out by the Venezuelan Armed Forces even led the Chavista government to temporarily close the border with Brazil.

Venezuelan military exercises will be held until this Thursday (23). Despite the show of force, Maduro argues that the objective of the initiative is to “build peace”.

The Venezuelan government is experiencing its most serious crisis of legitimacy, since Maduro’s supposed victory in last year’s presidential elections was not recognized by a large part of the international community, due to the lack of publication of the detailed results of the election.

On the day of the presidential inauguration, after threats from opposition candidate Edmundo González that he would enter Venezuela to take command of the country, the Armed Forces released images of missiles being positioned to “defend sovereignty”.

González left the country after an arrest warrant was issued for him.

Furthermore, the weekend after his inauguration, former Colombian president Álvaro Uribe called for military intervention in the South American nation, with support from the United Nations, so that Maduro could be removed from power.

On Tuesday (21), the Venezuelan Parliament declared him a “public enemy” of the country.
