Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro wore a Landless Workers’ Movement (MST) cap during an event on Tuesday (26). He received the accessory from people in the audience and wore it at the beginning of his speech.
Maduro highlighted that he receives the MST “with love” and, at another point in his speech, invited the movement to send farmers to produce in Venezuela.
“I invite the MST to also come with hundreds of its farmers, to come and produce in Venezuela with their experience. With the communes,” he said.
The Venezuelan president was talking about food production in the country when he made the request.
“MST, send me a brigade of a thousand men and women from Brazil to produce on Venezuelan soil,” he added, being applauded afterwards.
Election result is disputed
One month after Venezuela’s presidential elections, the country’s National Electoral Council (CNE) has not released the electoral records. Parts of the international community, including Brazil, are pushing for the detailed results to be published.
The CNE and the Venezuelan courts confirmed Maduro’s victory. However, the opposition claims that it had access to a sufficient number of records that would confirm that Edmundo González was the true winner of the election.
González was summoned by the Venezuelan Public Prosecutor’s Office to testify about a website that released the alleged electoral records. However, the opponent did not appear.
This Wednesday (28), the leader of the Venezuelan opposition, María Corina Machado, participates in a protest in Caracas.
Protests following the presidential election left dozens dead and hundreds arrested, according to the country’s government.
