The indications for “I’m Still Here” by director Walter Salles, and actress Fernanda Torres to the Oscars 2025 continue to resonate in the international press.
In addition to Variety classifying the nomination as one of the surprises of the year, the magazine Vanity Fair commented on the film’s chances in the category Best Film, indication that occurred for the first time in history.
“The Academy always leans a little more toward internationalism than other voting bodies like the PGA or SAG. But still, the best picture nomination for ‘Here I Am Here’ seems to have come out of nowhere — that is, if you hadn’t heard the floor here in Los Angeles. Last fall, Walter Salles’ Brazilian drama was playing like a hit to any Academy member who saw it; they raved about him to anyone who would listen. The problem? As with any non-English title, it was difficult to get this film to the top of the viewer piles, no matter how good the word of mouth is.”
Vehicles like The Hollywood Reporter, The Washington Post, Deadline and New York Times also echoed the recommendations.
THE ceremony of the 97th Academy Awards is scheduled for March 2 in Los Angeles, in the United States. See the full list of nominees.
