“Magic mushrooms”: hallucinogen laboratory is found in law office

A man responsible for maintaining a hallucinogenic mushroom laboratory inside a law office was arrested this Thursday morning (26) in Goiânia (GO).

According to the Civil Police of Goiás, the products, known as “magic mushrooms”, contain the substance psilocybin, a hallucinogen banned in Brazil, according to the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).

The investigations, which began around six months ago, indicate that the suspect sold mushrooms and derived products (such as chocolates and capsules) through social networks and sent them by post throughout the country.

The police highlight that the person under investigation, who calls himself a spiritual and therapeutic guide, used mushrooms and other products in certain religious ceremonies as a supposed alternative form of treatment for depression, anxiety and other mental disorders.

By selling the substances, the suspect earned around R$50,000 per month and charged R$2,500 for each service provided.

Three home search and seizure warrants were executed at addresses linked to the suspect, where a significant quantity of mushrooms was found. in nature and ground, as well as chocolates and bottles with capsules of the illicit substance.

According to the police, in one of the locations, a law firm that belongs to the man’s father, there was a type of laboratory that, in addition to storing most of the seized material, was used for manipulation, encapsulation and production of products derived from the mushroom. hallucinogen.

The products were seized and sent to the Technical-Scientific Police Superintendency and, after confirming the presence of the substance, the suspect was arrested red-handed.
