Major, Joe Biden’s dog, and his (not easy) new life in the White House

His arrival at the White House was greeted with great fanfare, complete with «Indoguration» su Zoom: the German Shepherd Major was the first dog taken from a kennel to enter the presidential residence and together with Champ – the other German shepherd of Joe and Jill Biden – marked the return to Washington of the dogs, always faithful companions of all American presidents, except that of Donald Trump, that in the eight years of his mandate he did not want any pet, breaking a tradition considered sacred.

At the same time, however, Major is also the first dog to cause serious headaches for a president.

At the beginning of March he had bitten a security officer, and for this he was brought back to the Biden home in Delaware for a training period. Now, as soon as he returned to Washington, he did the same: bit another staff member. This is an employee of the National Park Service, who was also seen by the White House doctor because of the accident.

Michael LaRosa, spokesman for the First Lady, explained that the dog “he is still adapting to the new environment and took a bite during a walk “. A similar explanation had been given by Biden himself on the occasion of the first bite, saying that for Major the presidential environment was completely new, who knew no one, and who therefore attacked to protect his masters. Indeed Champ, given to Jill by Joe right after the 2008 election, he was practically born and raised in the White House: he spent years there when Biden was Obama’s deputy, and it never gave any problems.

At the moment it is not known whether Major will have to return to Delaware, or if other measures are taken, what is certain is that the presidential couple imagined there would be some hitch. During an interview with The Kelly Clarkson Show Jill Biden had said: “I was obsessed with setting up our dogs in the White House, one is old and one very young ». “They have to take the elevator, they’re not used to it, and then they run everywhere. I also once found Major on the sofa, where he wouldn’t be allowed. ‘ In the gallery above some images of American presidents with their dogs
