Major reshuffle in Xiaomi: head of Redmi appointed president of the company

Xiaomi has made an important announcement on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The Chinese industrial giant has appointed Lu Weibing as the new president of Xiaomi Group International. In this position, he replaced Wang Xiang, who joined the team in July 2015 as the company’s senior vice president. In 2019, Wang Xiang became president of Xiaomi Group, responsible for global business development, intellectual property strategy, and strategic partnership management.

Lu Weibing’s responsibilities also include managing several departments, including those that produce smartphones and large home appliances. In addition to the international division, he will be responsible for business development in the Chinese and Indian regions. Wang Xiang will return to the position of vice president of the company and will serve as president of Xiaomi Group in China.

Lu Weibing joined Xiaomi in January 2019. He led the brand’s team in China, formulated strategic goals, business directions, and achieved very significant results. Weibing has launched a number of highly successful products. Thanks to him, sales of many of them reached record volumes, and three smartphone models entered the top ten best-selling mobile devices in the world. Recently, he has been in charge of Redmi, responsible for branding, planning, production, sales and marketing.

The reshuffle in Xiaomi’s leadership positions may be related to rumors about the dismissal of thousands of employees of the company. Chinese media reported that Xiaomi is preparing several phases of cuts that have affected several departments. According to rumors, some of them fired up to 75% of the staff.
