Microsoft has released the disk images (ISO file) of the next major update to the Windows 10 operating system and is now available for a clean install. A small catch – while the images are available for participants in the Windows 10 Insider Preview testing program.

As noted by the thematic resource WindowsLatest, although this is a “preview”, users can safely use these images for updating due to the specifics of the distribution of 21H1. There is no significant difference between 20H2 and 21H1 now, and there is no point in rushing. Basically, 21H1 is nothing more than a cumulative update for 20H2. Installing from ISO will add one to the build number and activate changes to the Windows Hello settings.
Microsoft plans to release version 21H1 in a “service format” – as well as monthly updates and version 20H2. Innovations from are activated using a special key. As Microsoft promises, users of Windows 10 version 2004 or 20H2 will be able to update very quickly thanks to this approach. Similarly, the October version of Windows 10 20H2 is distributed, resulting in the transition from Windows 10 May 2020 Update (OS version 2004) to Windows 10 October 2020 Update takes only a few minutes.
Earlier, Microsoft confirmed the main features of Windows 10 21H1. This is an underwhelming and big update that adds support for multiple cameras for Windows Hello and security-related performance improvements:
- Supports multiple Windows Hello cameras for default setting as external camera with both external and internal cameras.
- Improvements to the performance of Windows Defender Application Guard, including optimization of document opening times.
- Improving the performance of the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Group Policy Service (GPSVC) update to support remote scenarios.
