Majority of voters blame Petrobras for rising fuel prices, says Ipespe poll

The Ipespe survey with voting intentions for president in the 2022 elections, released this Friday (20), showed the opinion of respondents about the responsibility for the increase in fuel prices in the country. Petrobras was singled out as the most responsible.

Ipespe asked respondents what responsibility Petrobras, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), the war in Ukraine, state governors, the Lula and Dilma governments and the Federal Supreme Court (STF) have.

The majority – 64% – said that Petrobras has a lot of responsibility. Another 24% said that the state-owned company bears some responsibility for the increases.

For 45%, President Bolsonaro has a lot of responsibility. And 25% said he has some responsibility.

The war in Ukraine and state governors have the same rates: 40% believe that both have a lot of responsibility; and 31%, a little responsibility.

For 37%, the governments of former presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Dilma Rousseff, both of the PT, have a lot of responsibility. And 23% say they have some responsibility.

For 32%, the STF is very responsible; and for 27%, it is little.

The survey also heard from voters about the expectation of inflation and product prices in the coming months. For 64% of voters, there will be an increase, compared to 21% who say they are not betting on a change in level. Already 11% of voters said that prices will fall.

1,000 people were interviewed by phone between May 16 and 18. The survey, commissioned by XP Investimentos, was registered with the Electoral Court under the number BR-08011/2022.

The margin of error is plus or minus 3.2 percentage points, with a confidence interval of 95.5%. That is, if 100 surveys were carried out, at least 95 would present the same results within this margin.
