“Make Molotov Cocktails”, Urges Defense of Ukraine on Twitter to Kiev Citizens

The official profile of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on Twitter urged the population of the Obolon district, northwest of Kiev, the country’s capital, to make Molotov cocktails to neutralize possible invaders in the region. The country has been under attack from Russia since the early hours of Thursday (24).

“We ask citizens to report on the circulation of equipment! Make Molotov cocktails, neutralize the occupant! Peaceful residents beware! Do not leave the house”, asks the government in the message, published in the early hours of this Friday (25), at Brazilian time.

Kiev authorities reinforced the recommendation to Obolon residents to stay off the streets, due to the approach of “active hostilities”.

“In connection with the approach of active hostilities, residents of the Obolon district are asked not to leave,” the city council said in a warning released on Friday.

US intelligence officials said on Friday they were worried Kiev could fall under Russian control within days, according to two sources familiar with the latest information. Russian forces are within a 20-mile radius of Kiev, senior government officials told lawmakers on the Capitol on Thursday night.

Officials believe Russia is facing tougher resistance from Ukrainian forces than anticipated, according to the sources. But officials at that Capitol briefing declined to say whether they believed Kiev would fall.

Western intelligence officials assess that Russia’s plan is to overthrow the government in Kiev and install a Russia-friendly government – but they still don’t know if Vladimir Putin will try to occupy and hold Ukrainian territory afterwards, he told Reuters. CNN one of the sources familiar with intelligence.

understand the conflict

After months of military escalation and intemperance on the Ukrainian border, Russia attacked the Eastern European country. At dawn this Thursday (24), Russian forces began to bomb several regions of the country – follow the repercussion live on CNN.

Hours earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin authorized a “special military operation” in the Donbas region (eastern Ukraine, where the breakaway regions of Luhansk and Donetsk are located, which he recognized as independent).

What was seen in the following hours, however, was an attack on almost the entire Ukrainian territory, with explosions in several cities, including the capital Kiev.

According to Ukrainian officials, dozens of deaths have been confirmed in the armies of both countries.

In his speech before the attack, Putin justified the action by saying that Russia could not “tolerate threats from Ukraine”. Putin urged Ukrainian soldiers to “put down your weapons and go home”. The Russian leader further stated that he will not accept any kind of foreign interference.

This attack on the former Soviet neighbor threatens to destabilize Europe and involve the United States.

Russia has been tightening its military grip around Ukraine for the past year, amassing tens of thousands of troops, equipment and artillery at the country’s gates.

In recent weeks, diplomatic efforts to defuse tensions have been unsuccessful.

The escalation in the years-long conflict between Russia and Ukraine has triggered the continent’s biggest security crisis since the Cold War, raising the specter of a dangerous confrontation between Western powers and Moscow.
