Mexico security forces arrested 9 allegedly gang members and killed another 12 during a operation with the involvement of the Armed Forces in a rural area of southwestern Mexico yesterday, the Mexican Security Ministry said. Security Minister Omar Harfas said through X that three members of the Navy’s Special Forces were injured in this operation, in Wichodla, in the state of Michoacan. Those arrested are alleged to be involved in a series of crimes, from homicides to blackmail and abductions, according to Mr Harfas. Gangs in the area are linked to smuggling by sea, and the Navy forces have found weapons and other “regular” on -site equipment, according to a press ministry. Security forces met “strong resistance” to the operation that “made it necessary to use force, as provided for in the applicable regulations”, added to the text.
