Makka goes under house arrest, the girl who killed her father to defend her mother will be able to continue studying

There is no risk of escape or repetition of the crime, Makka, the 18-year-old who killed her father to defend her mother, remains under house arrest in the community and will be able to continue studying remotely. The girl was heard for four hours by judge Riccardo Ghio who technically did not validate the arrest. She is now separated from her mother and siblings, followed by psychologists. Her lawyers have reported that she is in precarious “psychological and physical conditions”.

The young woman who lives in Nizza Monferrato, in the province of Asti, is accused of murder aggravated by family ties (the rules are those of the red code ed.). According to initial investigations, the environment in which the murder occurred is clear: family violence. The victim is his father Akhyad Sulaev, a 50-year-old Chechen, killed on the afternoon of Friday 1 March.

This is the girl's story. «When dad came home he attacked mom. He put his hands around her neck. She didn't even give her time to undress. I tried to divide them, to say “stop dad, stop”. But he chased me. Then he hit me too.” After her the girl took the knife with which she hit him in the back and abdomen.

Akhyad Sulaev was more master than father in his family. The beatings, according to the girl's story, were commonplace, but always in places where they could not be seen. The mother received threats via messages which she sent to her daughter such as “When you come back I will kill you”. The girl reportedly told of a continuous request for money which she appears to use to date other women and for a second family in Chechnya. Makka's mother repeated to everyone: “If my daughter hadn't been there, my husband would have killed me.” However, she had never filed a complaint against her husband with whom she had three other children: a 14-year-old girl and two boys aged 11 and 10. Only her confidences to a friend of hers.

Husband and wife worked in a restaurant where their daughter also worked as a waitress. The owners told Corriere della Sera. «Makka is a diligent girl. She studies, works as a waitress, helps the family. As well as Natalia, her mother. She is a hard worker. One of those people who never complains. It was she who proposed her husband to us. We never noticed anything.” Sulaev had resigned on Friday and wanted his wife to leave his job too. It seems he didn't want to give her financial independence. This is where the argument arose.

Makka's case is reminiscent of that of Alex Cotoia convicted of killing his father while defending his mother. Alex was sentenced to 6 years, 2 months and twenty days by the Turin Court of Appeal after his acquittal in the first degree.
