Malaysian police destroy over 1,000 confiscated ASIC miners

On Twitter, a video quickly went viral in which Bitcoin mining devices were destroyed. It turned out that the Malaysian police in this way got rid of the confiscated equipment.

The video originally appeared on the Chinese messenger WeChat on Friday morning. From the background in the picture, it is difficult to understand exactly where the equipment was destroyed, so some commentators have suggested that the video was filmed in China or Latin America.

Later, the Malaysian edition of The Star reported that in this way the authorities of the city of Miri from Sarawak state destroyed 1,049 ASIC miners with a total value of $ 1.25 million, confiscated during operations to prevent illegal mining. The operations took place from February to April this year.

In mid-June, it was reported that during a police operation in the Malaysian city of Georgetown, law enforcement agencies managed to detain four clandestine miners and confiscate more than 400 ASIC miners of various models.

According to researchers from Cambridge, miners from Malaysia currently account for about 4% of the total hashrate of the Bitcoin network.
