At least nine people were killed and more than 60 wounded in a triple suicide attack in the central Mali town of Savare today, Yakuba Maiga, a spokesman for the local governor, said.
“The explosion destroyed about 20 houses in the neighborhood. In total, there are nine dead and about 60 injured, all civilians,” Maiga said by phone to Reuters.
Earlier, Mali’s public television broadcast a government statement saying the army had foiled a “terrorist attack” in Savare. “Three vehicles packed with explosives were destroyed by a drone strike,” the statement said, without elaborating.
So far no organization has claimed responsibility for the attack.
