Mali: Six dead in rare attack near capital Bamako

Six people died in Yes in an attack that occurred near the capital Bamako, which is rare.

As announced by the Ministry of Security, the attack took place on the night of Thursday to Friday, “about 70 kilometers from Bamako”, at the “checkpoint in Zadigila, on the road leading to Segu” (center).

It had a tally of “six dead,” incl three civilians and three members of the law enforcement forces (two gendarmes and a policeman), while there are also two injured.

Such an attack had almost never been carried out in this zone, which has so far been practically unscathed by the violence raging in the north and central part of the Sahel country.

On the same road, which connects Bamako to Ségu, a police officer was murdered on June 24, in Fana, in an attack on a police station by “unknown armed men”, according to the police.

The attack in Zadigila was also carried out by “still unknown gunmen”, according to the security ministry.

Security Minister General Daoud Ali Muammeddin visited Zadigila yesterday to “assess the damage and reiterate orders” for tougher measures.

A poor country in the heart of the Sahel, Mali experienced two military coups in August 2020 and May 2021.

The political crisis added to the deepening security crisis after jihadist and separatist insurgencies broke out in the north in 2012.

The military junta ruling the African nation has ended cooperation with France and its partners, turning to Russia to deal with the escalation of jihadist activity, which has spread to the central part of the country and neighboring states, Niger and Burkina Faso .

The conflict in Mali has claimed the lives of thousands of people, civilians and combatants, and uprooted hundreds of thousands more.
