The International Cooperation Unit (NCI) of the Federal Police in Pernambuco, in collaboration with Interpol and the Federal Police of Argentina, announced on Wednesday (25) the arrest of a former bank employee, 44 years old, resident of Afogados da Ingazeira, in the Sertão region of Pernambuco.
For three years, the suspect allegedly sexually abused his 8-year-old niece inside his own home.
The former banker, who was a fugitive from Brazilian justice, had been included on Interpol’s red list on August 8, 2024 and was arrested in Buenos Aires, in the San Telmo neighborhood, by Argentine police on September 17.
According to authorities, the former banker paid rent of $500, an amount considered quite high by regional standards, which raised suspicions.
Extradition
According to the Federal Police in Pernambuco, negotiations are underway between the governments of Brazil and Argentina to carry out the extradition of the former banker.
Brazilian federal police officers will be sent to Argentina to bring him back to Brazil, where he must serve his sentence.
The man was sentenced to 29 years and 2 months in prison for rape of a vulnerable person, crimes committed in Pernambuco.
