A man in the United States has been accused of stealing $45,000 worth of Christmas reindeer decorations from the Joliet Slammers baseball team’s stadium earlier this month.
Police said 52-year-old Victor Sessoms was charged after he was identified as the man who stole three 16-foot-tall decorations from the loading dock at the Duly Health & Care Field baseball field on Nov. 11 and 12. .
The decorations were part of the GLOW Holiday Festival at the stadium, with more than a million Christmas lights, which runs until January 5th.
Police said Sessoms “indicated” his involvement in the robbery, and an investigation determined he took down the decorations for money.
An arrest warrant was issued for Sessoms on Friday (22), and he was arrested on Monday afternoon (25), and was scheduled to appear in court.
Joliet Slammers co-owner Night Train Veeck was offering to make a donation to charity as a reward for information about the theft of the lighted Christmas reindeer decorations.
“Thanks to our Holiday hero, a detective with the Joliet Police Department, the Grinch’s attempt to steal joy ended up generating more generosity. As promised, the Slammers and GLOW Holiday Festival will donate a cash reward to the detective’s favorite charity! Not even the Grinch could eclipse Joliet’s spirit of generosity!” Veeck said in a statement.
Veeck said the Slammers had more reindeer decorations to replace the ones that were stolen before the festival opened.
