A Briton attempted to climb the world’s sixth-tallest building without safety gear on Monday, until authorities forced him to abandon his climb more than halfway up the skyscraper in Seoul, South Korea.
Video released by the Songpa Fire Department showed the man climbing the facade of the 123-story Lotte World Tower with his bare hands. He had been climbing to the 73rd floor for more than an hour when authorities forced him into a maintenance cradle and into the building, according to a fire department official.
The 24-year-old man, wearing shorts, was handed over to police for questioning. The police were not available for comment.
The Chosun Ilbo newspaper identified the man as George King-Thompson. British media reported that he was arrested for climbing the Shard building in London in 2019.
