The Pernambuco Civil Police are investigating the murder of Wevellyn Marcelly, a trans woman known as Evinha, found dead last Thursday (24) in the Ibura neighborhood, South Zone of Recife. On Friday (25), a man suspected of participating in the crime was arrested red-handed.
Images from security cameras show the moment the suspect leaves Evinha’s body on a public road, tied and wrapped in a sheet, and even steps on it.
When the body was found, the victim showed signs of strangulation. According to the Civil Police, the suspect, after being identified in the images, was arrested and taken to a custody hearing.
The case is being investigated by the 3rd Homicide Police Station, which is now seeking to clarify the motivation for the crime and identify others involved.
In a note sent to CNN the Civil Police of Pernambuco highlighted that the quick arrest of the suspect reinforces the institution’s commitment to combating violence against the LGBTQIA+ population.
“With this arrest, the 3rd DPH reaffirms its commitment to combating violent crime, providing an immediate and effective response to increase the feeling of security in the community”, highlights the note.
