Douglas Luís da Silva Leite, 47, who had already spent four years in prison without the right to trial, was detained again due to a mistake by the Pernambuco judiciary.
The man was serving a semi-open sentence, wearing an electronic ankle bracelet, when, according to the Electronic People Monitoring Center (CEMEP), he allegedly failed to comply with the electronic monitoring rules, despite being in a permitted location.
Based on the information provided by CEMEP, the 2nd Regional Criminal Enforcement Court of Recife suspended the defendant’s semi-open regime.
However, CEMEP subsequently issued another letter stating that there had been no error in serving the sentence, explained the Court of Justice of Pernambuco, in a note to CNN .
Despite being in a permitted location, Douglas spent four days at the Professor Everardo Luna Observation and Screening Center (Cotel), in Abreu e Lima, in Greater Recife.
In a statement, the Pernambuco Penitentiary Administration and Reintegration Secretariat (Seap) reported that Douglas Leite was taken to Cotel on July 24 and released only the following Monday, the 26th, on the same day the release warrant was issued.
