A 52-year-old man was arrested last Tuesday (9) in the interior of Minas Gerais on suspicion of sexually abusing women during alleged spiritual healing sessions. The arrest took place in the city of Monjolos, about 250 kilometers from Belo Horizonte. The identity of the prisoner was not disclosed.
According to the Specialized Police Station for Women in Diamantina, which coordinated the investigations, the suspect deceived the victims by promising spiritual cures, but during the sessions, he committed sexual abuse and allegedly recorded the acts without the women’s consent.
After the abuse, he extorted them, threatening to release videos of the sessions. According to police officer Kíria Orlandi, the complaints from other women, who were also abused by the criminal, helped to strengthen the case against him.
“This operation highlights the importance of the work carried out by the Civil Police in protecting women’s rights and in the fight against crimes of sexual abuse and extortion. The courage of the victims in reporting the crime and the dedication of the police team were fundamental in ensuring that justice was served,” said Orlandi.
