A man was arrested accused of mistreating an 8-year-old boy in the city of Uberlândia, in Minas Gerais, last Monday (12). According to the Military Police, the child's mother was also detained.
The Military Police said they were contacted by neighbors of the family, who live in a condominium in the Santa Rosa neighborhood, at the headquarters of the 17th Military Police Battalion of Minas Gerais.
Witnesses stated that the boy was constantly attacked and took footage that showed his stepfather, a 40-year-old man, forcing the child to eat branches and stones in the building's garage.
In the video, the stepfather tells the child: “now you will learn”. Crying, the child even puts the twigs and stones in his mouth and chews them before spitting them out. It is also possible to see the suspect hitting the child with four slaps before the recording ends. With the video and reports from neighbors, who said they frequently witnessed attacks on the child, the police went to the couple's address and arrested the man for torture.
The boy's mother was also there and was informed about the facts. Initially, she told the police that she had already seen her partner “correcting” the child, but there had never been any aggression. The police then showed the recording of the mistreatment to the woman, who changed her version, confessed to the omission and confirmed that she had already witnessed other attacks. The child's mother also said she was a drug user. The woman was also arrested.
In conversation with the police, the suspect said that on the day the mistreatment was recorded, his stepson wanted to eat five eggs and he would not have allowed it. The child then responded by saying: “What am I going to eat?”, which would have irritated him. The man also said he was a drug user.
The Uberlândia Guardianship Council followed the action and sent the child to a shelter in the city. The boy's stepfather and mother were taken to the Uberlândia police station.
