Man arrested for painting beans green to deceive customers in Rio

The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro arrested, this Tuesday (13), a 43-year-old man accused of dyeing beans of the “fradinho” type to sell them as cowpea.

The police received a complaint that on Rua Visconde da Gávea, in the Gamboa neighborhood, there was a property where a clandestine production of “painted” beans was operating. The information was confirmed, however, the person responsible for tampering with the product was not on site.

The man was identified while selling the grains at a free fair in the Vilar dos Teles neighborhood and received a voice of arrest. The same confirmed that he already carried out the practice both in Baixada Fluminense, on weekdays, and in the municipality of São Gonçalo, on weekends.

To the police, the man informed that he learned the “technique” in São Paulo, when he then decided to bring the “business” to Rio de Janeiro a year ago.

The property in Gamboa was interdicted and the person responsible for the fraud went to a custody hearing.
