A man was arrested on suspicion of making death threats against Judge Bénédicte de Perthuis, who barred the leader of the French ultra-right Marine Le Pen to run for president in 2027, the prosecutor said.
The cooking in Bobigny, the northeast of Paris, said on Wednesday (9) that the 76-year-old, whose name was not informed, published a photograph of an X-account guillotine and wrote “this is what the bitch deserves” in reference to Perthuis, who condemned Le Pen.
The magistrate was placed under police protection after receiving death threats and having her residential address shared online. Photos of her were also published on social networks and on ultra-right political sites.
The man, who resides in the Parisian suburb of La Garenne-Colomes, was taken in custody around 10:30 am on Tuesday (8). He is suspected of death threats and contempt against judiciary, said the prosecution’s office.
De Perthuis condemned Le Pen and members of his party, National Meeting (RN), last month for misappropriation of Funds from the European Union.
She has imposed the immediate ban on running public office for five years, which will prevent her from participating in the 2027 presidential election unless the decision is annulled by appeal.
Le Pen stated that he is the victim of a witch hunt and that his punishment is equivalent to the interference of judges in democracy.
She criticized the threats of death against judges and pledged to seek all legal means to annul punishment.
