Man arrested on suspicion of bombing Iranian embassy in Paris

A man was arrested this Friday morning (19) on suspicion of breaking into the Iranian embassy in Paris, France. According to police, he threatened to blow himself up.

Witnesses said the man was seen at around 11am (6am Brasília time) entering the consulate carrying what appeared to be a grenade and an explosive vest. However, after a search, it was found that he was not carrying explosives, a police source said.

Circulation was interrupted on three metro lines in the French capital due to the incident. The United States embassy in France issued a warning for citizens to avoid the area and follow the guidance of security authorities.

According to the French press, witnesses said that the individual carried flags and said that his objective was to avenge his brother's death.

The case takes place on the same day that Israel carried out attacks against Iran, but there is still no confirmation whether the incidents are related.

This Friday, explosions echoed in the Iranian city of Isfahan, in what sources described as an Israeli attack. However, Tehran downplayed the incident and indicated that it had no plans to retaliate – a response that seemed designed to avoid a region-wide war.

The previous Saturday (13), Iran had carried out a drone attack on Israel.
