Man arrested on suspicion of facilitating illegal entry of Cuban immigrants into Brazil

The Federal Highway Police announced this Tuesday (19) the arrest of a man suspected of facilitating the illegal entry of Cuban immigrants into Brazil. The incident occurred during an inspection on BR-401, in the municipality of Cantá, Metropolitan region of Boa Vista, in Roraima.

During policing, agents ordered a vehicle to stop, but the driver refused and tried to flee. Police managed to arrest the suspect after a 4 km chase.

In the car there was the driver, a Brazilian, and eight Cuban citizens who had not registered to enter Brazil. Among the passengers were two teenagers and a one-year-old child.

The driver confessed that he would receive a sum of money to transport the immigrants to Boa Vista. The case occurred last Monday (19).

The man must answer for facilitating the illegal entry of foreigners into Brazil for the purpose of financial advantage. The case was forwarded to the municipality’s Federal Police. The family’s immigration status was not disclosed.
