A man who confessed to murdering Kleber Ferreira da Costa (PL) — councilor of the municipality of Paulo de Faria, in São Paulo — was arrested by police from the state’s 30th Military Police Battalion on Tuesday (11).
According to the Public Security Secretariat of São Paulo, the 24-year-old perpetrator fled the scene of the homicide in the victim’s 43-year-old vehicle, but ended up being arrested hours after the crime. The motive for the crime has yet to be clarified.
The murder took place in the municipality of Votuporanga, in São Paulo, and the arrest took place in Novo Horizonte — which is about 170 km from the first city. The PM had information that the young man was fleeing towards the city of São Paulo.
The police identified the victim’s vehicle and, upon realizing the approach of the vehicle, the perpetrator entered a dirt road in the rural area, which he followed until he lost control of the steering and collided against a ravine.
According to reports from the PM teams, he got out of the car, entered the woods, tried to flee on foot, but was captured. “The perpetrator was sent to the Central de Flagrantes de Novo Horizonte/SP and remained at the disposal of Justice”, says the PM in a note.
