The Justice of Minas Gerais convicted, last Thursday (28), a man identified as Bruno de Souza Costa, aged 27, of qualified homicide as a result of the death of Valdir Prates Braga, aged 62, which occurred in 2023 in the city of Patrocínio, located around 400 kilometers from Belo Horizonte.

The man was reported to the Public Ministry for having struck the elderly man, who offered a banana to Jaqueline Ferreira Soares, Bruno’s ex-partner.

The case happened on November 10, 2023. According to the complaint, Bruno was in front of his ex-girlfriend’s residence, trying to rekindle the relationship.

According to the information, the victim, who lived in a neighboring house, went out into the street with some bananas, a habit that according to the document was common among the elderly. Valdir then offered the fruit to Jaqueline, who accepted the food.

At this moment, the victim who continued his journey, heading towards the corner of the street, was attacked by Bruno who became enraged with jealousy and threw a flying punch hitting the elderly man in the back.

The man remained at the scene of the crime for a few minutes, cursing the victim who fell to the ground and hit his head against the sidewalk.

The elderly man was rescued, but did not survive and died before even being admitted to the hospital.

The penalty awarded for the crime was initially 18 years in prison, but was increased by a third, to 24 years, for futile reasons and for any appeal that makes the defense of the offended party difficult or impossible.

Bruno de Souza Costa will remain detained at the Senhora do Carmo Penitentiary, in the city of Carmo do Paranaíba, also in Minas Gerais.
