A 67-year-old man, identified as Edinaldo Neres dos Santos, died after being trapped under an elevator platform at a Caixa Econômica Federal branch in the city of Jequié, Bahia, last Tuesday afternoon (30).
According to the Civil Police of Bahia, he would have been pressed by an elevator adapted for the physically disabled. The rescue of the elderly man was carried out by the 8th Military Fire Brigade (BBM), in Jequié.
When rescued, the elderly man was already lifeless. The death was confirmed by a team from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) who was at the scene. Employees who work at the agency will be interviewed.
A CNN Caixa Econômica Federal said in a note that it expresses “deep regret at the death of the customer at the Jequié branch (BA)”, and stated that the bank “took all necessary measures to provide assistance at the time of the accident.”
Furthermore, Caixa informed the CNN that the equipment was maintained on time. The bank will cover funeral expenses, and Edinaldo's family will receive psychological support.
