Man dies and six others are injured after fall from stands at rodeo in MT

A bleacher fell and left one man dead and six people injured during the night of Friday (11) in the city of Juara, about 730 km from the capital Cuiabá, in Mato Grosso. The incident occurred during a rodeo that took place at the Acrivale Exhibition Park.

According to the Civil Police, one of the bleachers on the left side broke and the people who were seated fell from a height of approximately four meters.

The victims were rescued at the scene by the brigade members, with the support of Samu, and six were sent to the Municipal Hospital of Juara with fractures of different severities. One of the victims, 42-year-old Leone José Rodrigues, succumbed to his injuries.

The Association of Creators of the Arino Valley (Acrivale), the organization responsible for the EXPOVALE event, regretted what happened and said it was concentrating efforts to provide support to the victims and their families. In a note, the association also assured that it is investigating the causes of the incident to ensure that measures are taken to continue the event.

Acrivale also claimed to be in contact with the competent authorities and collaborating to clarify the circumstances of the incident. The festivity schedule will be maintained and should continue until the 13th of August.

“The Association of Breeders of the Arinos Valley informs that it deeply regrets the incident that occurred yesterday, August 11, 2023, during the rodeo in our exhibition park, when a seat in the bleachers gave way causing the fall of seven people.

It is important to point out that EXPOVALE, which is an event that is so awaited by the population of the Arinos Valley, has all the authorizations and permits necessary for its realization.

Our immediate priority in the face of what happened was to guarantee the safety of all the people involved and provide medical assistance to those affected, who were quickly attended to by the Fire Department and by rescuers on duty who were on duty at the scene. We thank you immensely in advance for the promptness and efficiency with which the teams responded to the situation.

At this time, we are focusing all our efforts on providing the appropriate support and support to the victims and their families. We have already started an investigation to determine the causes of the incident and ensure that measures are taken to ensure the well-being of all participants during EXPOVALE’s continuity. We are in contact with the competent authorities and fully collaborating with everything that is necessary.

We express our deep regret for this incident, especially for the only fatal victim of the incident, Mr. Leone José Domingues, whose family is receiving all the support available from this association.
