A man was caught in the act on Tuesday (18) for pretending to be the father of a child with cancer to apply scams on the internet. The case happened in Morro de São Paulo, a tourist village located on the coast of Bahia.
According to the Bahia Civil Police, the man is investigated for drug trafficking, document forgery and digital estelionato. Along with the suspect, 95 ecstasy tablets and a counterfeit CNH were found.
Police also seized documents, replicas of banknotes of R $ 50 and R $ 100, computers and cell phones, which may contain evidence of the crimes committed.
According to investigations, the man used a fake profile on a social network to apply blows, passing by the parents of a child who was fighting cancer.
With the false identity, he released collection campaigns and used paid boost to reach more people, leading victims to carry out bank transfers, believing they are helping in treatment.
According to police information, the real profile of the child was identified and has no bond with Brazil. The boy died in the United States in April 2024, and the criminal used his images and videos to make the blow more convincing.
The delegate responsible for the case requested judicial authorization for the extraction of the data contained in cell phones and notebooks seized in order to deepen the investigations.
In addition to the arrest in the act, a new inquiry was opened to investigate the crimes of estelionato and false identity. The Civil Police have already identified some people who have made transfers to the Pix key of the false profile.
The police station advises other victims to contact WhatsApp (75) 99171-8782, where they can send proof of payment and schedule testimonials by video conferencing. The exclusion of the fraudulent profile was also requested.
