American Kevin Stricland, 62, was released after being unjustly imprisoned for 43 years in the state of Missouri, in the United States. He had been convicted of three murders, which took place in the 1970s.
Convicted of the crimes, he was sentenced to 50 years in prison, without the possibility of parole, by a jury made up entirely of whites.
In April 1978, four people were shot dead in Kansas City, and only one survived: a woman who insisted that Kevin was one of those involved in the crime and was at the scene at the time of the attack.
Years later, she took it back, said she was wrong and admitted that she was drunk and drugged that day.
The disclosure was not enough to exonerate the defendant, who remained in prison, and who always claimed innocence.
Now, 43 years later, the charges have been dropped and Kevin is free. Upon leaving jail, the American said that he was still in disbelief and that he did not believe that this day would come.
