Dominican resident Gary Bowser has been convicted of pirating Nintendo Switch games and is ordered to pay Nintendo a total of $14.5 million. However, he was sentenced to more than three years in prison.
He was convicted of running websites and designing devices for the Team Xecutor organization, which allowed people to run pirated games on their Nintendo Switch consoles. After his sentencing a week ago, Bowser agreed to pay Nintendo another $4,500,000 in damages. In December, the court issued an order ordering Bowser to pay $10,000,000.
In 2020, the Justice Department arrested Bowser, along with Max Luarne, the mastermind behind Xecutor, who brought in investors and developers. Yuanning Chen, who oversaw the management of ChinaDistrib, a manufacturing and distribution company, was also charged.
