A man was arrested red-handed last Thursday (16) after reporting the false theft of a 2023 Porsche Cayenne, valued at R$1 million, to gain access to the vehicle’s insurance “claim”.
According to the investigation, the suspect claimed in his initial statement that he had been approached by armed criminals in the Ouro Verde neighborhood, in Rio das Ostras. However, on several occasions, the alleged victim contradicted his narrative and attracted the attention of the police officers who were conducting the investigations.
The agents decided to investigate the alleged victim’s statement and found evidence that demonstrated the fraud committed. Security cameras at the locations mentioned by the man did not record any unusual movement. The investigation also included images from the Federal Highway Police and the region’s Military Police.
After being confronted, the man admitted that he tried to apply the insurance scam to gain access to the “claim” valued at almost R$1 million.
The main reason given by the suspect was the impossibility of paying the vehicle financing installments, of approximately R$26,000 per month. According to the police, the prisoner already had records of a similar incident made in the same way, to access insurance for a Jaguar.
“We did a search in our database, and we saw that his vehicle did not appear in Rio das Ostras today [16]and we carried out other surveys in our systems and were able to verify that he recorded two other robberies, with the same circumstances, narrating the same facts” stated the delegate in the case, who revealed that the investigations will continue to take place.
