Edgar Ricardo de Oliveira, aged 30, was sentenced to 136 years in prison this Tuesday (16) for seven qualified homicides, in the case of the massacre following a pool game in a bar in the municipality of Sinop, in Mato Grosso, in February 2023.
At the time, two men, identified as Edgar Ricardo de Oliveira, aged 30, and Ezequias Souza Ribeiro, aged 27, killed seven people – including a 12-year-old teenager. They were playing pool with the victims and reportedly lost a significant amount of money gambling.
Edgar Ricardo de Oliveira is imprisoned at the Mato Grosso Central Penitentiary, in Cuiabá and was sentenced to 136 years, three months and 20 days, in addition to a 20-day closed fine and compensation of 200 thousand divided between the victims’ families. He said he intends to appeal during the trial via videoconference.
Edgar was defended by the State Public Defender’s Office and was convicted of seven qualified homicides, qualified robbery and aggravated robbery, as reported by the Public Ministry of Mato Grosso.
The other man in the case, Ezequias Souza Ribeiro, died in a confrontation with the police the day after the crime.
After the pair were the target of jokes, the two left in a white pickup truck and returned armed. The victims were then placed against one of the walls of the establishment and were shot at.
When police arrived at the scene, six of the victims were already dead. One of them was still alive, was rescued by the Fire Department and taken to the regional hospital, but did not survive.

- The pair would have lost a significant amount of money gambling;
- Upon being the target of jokes, the men leave the scene in a white pickup truck and return armed with a .380 pistol and a 12-gauge shotgun;
- The victims are placed against one of the walls of the establishment and receive shots. A 12-year-old girl is hit;
- Six people had already died when police arrived at the scene. One was rescued, but did not survive her injuries;
- The seven victims were identified as: Larissa Frazão de Almeida, 12 years old; Maciel Bruno de Andrade, 35 years old; Josué Ramos Tenório, 48 years old; Getúlio Rodrigues Frazão Júnior, 36 years old; Adriano Balbinote, 46 years old; Orisberto Pereira Sousa, 38 years old; and Elizeu Santos da Silva, aged 47, who died in hospital;
- On Wednesday night (22), the Military Police seized the truck, weapons and ammunition used in the crime;
- Still on Wednesday night, Ezequias Souza Ribeiro was killed when he clashed with the police in an area far from the center of Sinop;
- On Thursday morning (23), Edgar Ricardo de Oliveira was located and arrested by the police at a residence in the Jardim California neighborhood;
- The Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, classified the massacre as a “brutal” crime. “Another tragic result of the irresponsible arms policy that has led to the proliferation of ‘shooting clubs’, supposedly aimed at ‘good people’ (as the far right claims),” he wrote on social media.
