A 20-year-old man was arrested by the Civil Police of Mato Grosso, late Monday afternoon (16), after trying to kill his ex-partner. He did not accept the end of the relationship. The victim had 90% of his body burned and remains in serious condition.
The crime took place on the night of September 9, in the city of Paranatinga, about 375 kilometers from Cuiabá. The suspect lured his ex-partner to his house and set it on fire. The man also suffered serious burns – about 50% of his body – but is out of danger.
The investigation began after the Military Police were called to respond to a fire at a residence. At the scene, they found the two victims seriously injured.
At first, the suspect tried to claim that there had been a suicide attempt, but this version did not convince investigators. The victim, despite being in a serious condition, reported that her ex-partner had thrown alcohol on her and set her on fire.
Investigation and arrest
Based on the evidence collected, the Civil Police requested the suspect’s preventive arrest, which was granted by the Court. The arrest warrant was served at the Municipal Hospital, where the man was hospitalized.
The 18-year-old girl remains seriously injured, with 90% of her body burned, intubated and at risk of death. The victim’s family reported that she had already expressed fear of her ex-partner, fearing for her life.
“The couple, who had been in a relationship for three years, had been separated for three months, but they did not accept the end of the relationship. The victim’s mother reported that on the day of the incident, her daughter said that if she disappeared, her partner would be responsible, indicating her fear that her life would be taken by him,” said Gabriel Conrado Souza, the detective in charge of the case.
