Bus hijacking
A group of 16 passengers were held hostage this Tuesday (12) on a bus inside the Novo Rio bus station, in the central region of the capital of Rio de Janeiro. Agents from the Special Police Operations Battalion (BOPE) monitored the incident.
The kidnapping began around 2pm and the criminal surrendered around 6pm.
According to delegate Mário Andrade (4th DP), minutes after leaving the platform at Rodoviária Novo Rio, the bus had a breakdown and had to return, at which point Bruno would have taken the opportunity to board the bus. The criminal, who was trying to escape Rio, was already on the bus and thought the “maneuver” would be to arrest him. The man then shot and then took the passengers hostage.
In addition to Bruno, a second person was also injured by shrapnel. She was treated at the bus terminal and is doing well.
The criminal was identified as Paulo Sérgio de Lima. According to police information, he is a resident of Rocinha and has a history of robbery.
The bus, from Viação Útil, would leave at 2:30 pm for Juiz de Fora (MG). According to the company, 37 tickets were sold for the upper part of the bus, which is in the executive category, and 6 tickets for the lower part, which operates in the sleeper category.
