Man suspected of disposing of car used in the deaths of Marielle Franco and Anderson Gomes is arrested in RJ

The Federal Police and the Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Gaeco/MPRJ) arrested this Wednesday (28) a man accused of discarding the vehicle used during the murders of councilwoman Marielle Franco and her driver, Anderson Gomes, in 2018.

The man, owner of a scrap yard, had dismantled the car. According to the CNN his name is Edilson dos Santos, known as “Orelha”.

Orelha was known to Ronnie Lessa and Élcio de Queiroz, arrested as perpetrators of the crime. According to Élcio's plea bargain, Orelha was asked by former firefighter Maxwell Simões Corrêa, known as Suel, to get rid of the vehicle used in the attack that killed Marielle and driver Anderson Gomes.

The man – who had already been denounced by the Public Ministry in August 2023 – was arrested near his home in the Santa Cruz da Serra neighborhood, municipality of Duque de Caxias, in Baixa Fluminense.

The arrest is preventive – with no end date – and was carried out around 7pm.

The complaint pointed out that the accused prevented and hindered investigations into criminal offenses involving a criminal organization, causing serious damage to the administration of Justice and, consequently, to the search for the real truth.

The prisoner was taken to the Regional Superintendence of the Federal Police, in Praça Mauá, Port Zone of Rio and will be sent to the prison system, where he will remain at the disposal of the Justice.
