The Justice of Santa Catarina begins to judge, this Wednesday (9), Fabiano Kipper Mai, accused of killing three children and two teachers at a daycare center in Saudades, in the west of the state, in May 2021. Fabiano also responds for 14 assassination attempts.
The trial will take place from 8:30 am in the Hall of the Jury Court in the district of Pinhalzinho, a neighboring city to the municipality where the crime took place.

According to the Judiciary, the session will be open to the public. For security reasons, the streets close to the forum will be blocked for vehicles.
This Wednesday, the forecast is that six victims, eight prosecution witnesses and four defense witnesses will be heard. If it is possible to hear all the witnesses, on the second day the interrogation of the defendant and the explanation of the prosecution and defense, respectively, should begin.
Afterwards, the judge will meet with the jurors, representatives of the prosecution and defense to vote on the questions – questions about the crime that will lead to the elaboration of the sentence.
The judge of the Single Court of Pinhalzinho, Caio Lemgruber Taborda, will be responsible for presiding over the sessions.

In May 2021, Fabiano Kipper Mai, 18 years old at the time, invaded the Escola Infantil Pró-Infância Aquarela, in western Santa Catarina, and, with a dagger – a kind of sword – fatally struck two teachers and three babies. A boy, less than 2 years old, was rescued and managed to recover.
According to the prosecution, Fabiano tried to make other victims, but was prevented by teachers who noticed the attack and locked the doors and windows of the rooms, preventing the aggressor from entering.
After the attack, Fabiano was detained by the public and handed over to the authorities, later confessing the crime to the police. The defendant has been pre-trial detained since then.
