Man who attacked family members of Carnival block queen is arrested in Rio

The civil police of Rio de Janeiro arrested, this Tuesday morning (13), a man accused of attempted murder against members of the same family. The crime took place last Saturday night (10), during a carnival block in the south of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

The victims are the husband and children of the queen of the Banda do Lido block, who paraded on Saturday along Avenida Atlântica, in Copacabana.

When trying to approach the carnival block to watch his wife, José Carlos da Silva, he faced resistance from a man who worked in security at the event.

Marcelo Batista de Almeida, 56 years old, allegedly prevented the reveler from approaching, even after he explained his intention to get closer to his wife. During the disagreement, Marcelo used a glass mug, from which he was drinking beer, to hit the victim's head. See the moment of confusion:

The blows were delivered to the back of the head, neck and ear of José Carlos, who had to be hospitalized to have the cuts stitched.

The victim's children, who tried to stop the attacks, also ended up injured by the suspect. Other partygoers also tried to restrain the attacker.

The military police were called and the case was registered at the 12th Police Station, in Copacabana, as attempted murder. With a 30-day temporary arrest warrant, the police, under the coordination of delegate Ângelo Lajes, captured the suspect at home, in the north zone of Rio de Janeiro, this morning.
