The Court of Justice of Santa Catarina sentenced the perpetrator of the attack on the Cantinho Bom Pastor daycare center in Blumenau, which killed four children, in April 2023, to 220 years in prison.
He was charged with four qualified homicides and five attempted homicides.
The sentence was read at around 7 pm this Thursday (29), after a Jury Court session that lasted for 11 hours.
In the morning, five people were heard, followed by the interrogation of the defendant. In a secret vote, the majority decided to convict the man.
In April 2023, he broke into a daycare center in the municipality of Blumenau and, using an axe, committed the crimes. Among the victims were three boys and one girl, aged 5 to 7. All of the children killed were only children.
The commander of the Military Police of Blumenau, declared to CNN at the time of the events, that the man jumped over the wall of the daycare center, when around 40 children were there. The victims were playing in the playground when the attacker began to strike them with a hatchet, randomly.
According to the PM, the attacker walked away from the scene and turned himself in to the 10th BPM guard, where he was arrested and taken to the Civil Police.
Information provided by the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of Blumenau indicates that the perpetrator of the crime had been using drugs for some time and was experiencing hallucinations.
