Man who killed PT at a party is scheduled to be released this Wednesday (10)

The Justice of Paraná denied a second request for house arrest made by the defense of criminal police officer Jorge Guaranho, indicted for the death of municipal guard and PT treasurer Marcelo Arruda, in Foz do Iguaçu, during the party-themed PT birthday.

Guaranho has been hospitalized since the incident, and the discharge was scheduled for this Wednesday (10) at 12 pm, but has not yet been confirmed by the hospital. According to the court order, he must be sent to the Criminal Medical Complex, in Curitiba.

THE CNN contacted the Department of Criminal Police of the State of Paraná and awaits a return to confirm the arrival of the criminal police officer at the prison.

“The request for the defense of provisional release and replacement of preventive detention with house arrest was denied, as was the request for reconsideration,” the Paraná Court of Justice (TJ-PR) said in a note.

The Justice of Paraná accepted on July 20 the complaint of the Public Ministry (MP) against Jorge Guaranho, making him a defendant in the process. The penalty can be up to 30 years in prison.

Arruda was killed by Garanho, a supporter of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), at his own birthday party, in Foz do Iguaçu, with a theme in honor of the PT and former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

According to the MP, the crime was politically motivated, with “antagonistic party-political preferences”. The Prosecutor’s Office claims that Guaranho shot Arruda when he was already on the ground, saying “Everything is going to die [sic]”.

The complaint goes in the opposite direction of the investigation by the Civil Police of Paraná, which ruled out, last Friday (15), that there was political motivation.

Arruda’s lawyers, in turn, said that the investigations would show that the case happened because of political divergence.
