Man who put R$7 million in counterfeit notes into circulation is arrested by the PF

The Federal Police arrested this Wednesday (15) in Brasília a man responsible for injecting R$7,300,000.00 in counterfeit notes into the Brazilian market.

The arrest is within the scope of Operation Galés, which also carried out four search and seizure warrants against those being investigated in the Federal District and surrounding areas of the Federal District.

The millionaire data was collected by the Federal Police Database and only considered banknotes seized by the Post Office in the years 2023 and 2024. The total number of counterfeit banknotes entered into the market could be even higher, according to sources.

The investigation began at the end of last year, following the sending of information about those being investigated by the Special Unit for the Suppression of Counterfeiting of Currencies and Federal Documents (UERF), a specialized unit of the Federal Police in combating counterfeit currency crimes.

The investigators identified, in partnership with the Correios Corporate Security Coordination in Brasília, those responsible for manufacturing, distributing and sending fake banknotes throughout the country.

Those investigated will be responsible for the crimes of forgery of counterfeit currency and criminal association which, together, add up to 15 (fifteen) years of imprisonment, without prejudice to other crimes that can be identified based on the actions triggered today.
