Wallef César Oliveira Gonçalves, 27 years old, accused of stabbing and killing his ex-fiancée, 22, in Belo Horizonte on August 7th will be subjected to a popular jury.
Summary judge Bruno Sena Carmona, of the 1st Jury Court of Belo Horizonte, accepted the Public Prosecutor’s Office’s charges against Gonçalves. He will be charged with the crime of homicide with four qualifiers: base motive, cruel means, means that hindered the victim’s defense and against a woman due to her gender in the context of domestic violence.
In addition to maintaining preventive detention, the Court also authorized access to the content of the cell phones seized by the Civil Police of Minas Gerais, including access to WhatsApp messages, e-mail, messenger and other applications, in addition to deleted content and telephone calls.
The trial date has not yet been set.
Remember the case
According to investigations, the victim and the suspect had been in a relationship for about three years and were scheduled to get married in November of this year. However, she decided to end the engagement due to the suspect’s heavy alcohol consumption.
The breakup happened three days before the crime. Since that day, according to the police, the accused had been trying incessantly to contact the young woman. Afraid of her ex-partner, the victim left work early and asked a colleague for a ride, who dropped her off near a gas station on Presidente Antônio Carlos Avenue.
According to the investigation, when she saw her ex-fiancé following her on a motorcycle, the victim decided to talk to him, since, through text messages, he stated that he only wanted to discuss matters related to the apartment they had bought together. Since the place was very busy, the young woman believed she was safe.
Security cameras captured a brief conversation between the two and then the moment when the young woman realized that the suspect had a knife. At that moment, he stabbed the victim, first in the neck, making a deep cut. The man continued to stab her, and when he could no longer use the knife, he took another one from his pocket and continued the attack, with the young woman already on the ground.
Then, still without a helmet, the suspect fled on a motorcycle for a few kilometers, when he was arrested on the UFMG campus by a Military Police team.
The knives used and the cell phones were seized for examination.
